Council tax
Council Tax for private, domestic houses is unlawful and a fraud perpetrated by privately run corporations that use most of the money they extract from us to pay themselves lavishly, in the form of salaries that invariably bear no relation to the market rate, as well as generous benefits such as pensions. If you agree with this statement and wish to do something about it, there are several approaches you can take. There is no single "best" method; you need to consider your own circumstances and find an approach that resonates and that you understand. If you wish to simply follow a template approach, our opinion is that your chances of achieving your objective are lower. In this section and in the useful websites section are links and descriptions of some of these approaches.
One approach that is often used in this situation as well as many others, from parking "fines" to utilities and credit card loans, is a three or four stage process, where you initially provide a Notice of Conditional Acceptance, subject to proof of an existing lawful contract, with full equitable disclosure. Your Notice will almost always either be ignored or treated as a complaint, in an attempt to create joinder. This is followed by a second notice of caution repeating the same offer, along with an Affidavit and finally a Notice of Default, possibly with a Lien Notice or Letter Before Action. Such a procedure follows due process of law and allows you to remain in honour.
All we do here is lawful and legal. We don’t refuse to pay: although we can refuse to contract. But in the middle of a payment term, when we have already paid some money, it may be more complicated. Then we need to interrupt the joinder or ‘acceptance’ to a state of ‘conditional acceptance’. Because as soon as we know it’s a fraud, we are legally required to stop paying. The councils' life blood is in their tax collection. So do not expect them to stop harassing you. But over time, with the perseverance, we will have an efficient method for beating down any flames, as they occur. The aim here is an efficient system, to use as required. To defund our oppressors, and save £200 or so, every month: it takes a little time.
The link to the Peacekeeper's Dispute Process, which comprises four stages is in the useful websites section, or below. There is a wealth of information for those people who want a detailed step by step process. There are more direct options which are often taken by people who believe that the Councils just ignore everything anyway, so prefer to "cut to the chase".
